My emotions are playing tricks on me today. I know I’m feeling sad mostly because I’m exhausted and mildly burnt out. A hard ride yesterday in Cumberland took it out of me, along with a full-on week of riding. I’m listening to my body and taking a well needed break today.
I asked my sister for some advice a while back when I was feeling down – she told me to go to the SPCA, as she finds it always lifts her spirits when she needs a little pick-me-up. I thought I’d give it a shot, so that’s where I went today. There were only a few cats, but it felt so nice to hold one in my lap as she happily purred away. It felt good knowing that I was helping her feel happier too. I’m sure she was incredibly lonely, and having someone pay attention to her must have meant as much to her as it did to me. When the other cats began fighting with the sweet one in my lap, I took it as a cue to leave. I left feeling good. Still tired, but with a happier heart.
If you’re having one of those days, why not try visiting some animals who would appreciate a small token of love. It definitely helped me today. It’s amazing what happens when we focus on helping others – it always ends up helping us too. I will be back!
