I know I have been MIA. It’s bugging me too, don’t worry. My brain is full. Too full to pull anything out of besides ECG strips, medication doses and ACLS algorithms. Yes, this is my life lately. ER training. But I’m loving every single minute of it. December 3rd is the big day. The day where I get to breathe a sigh of relief in finishing my program, while moving into panic mode when I actually begin working in the ER – minus the “student” tag on my badge. But. That means having actual days off with more adventures and more pictures to share. Get ready…
‘Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it’.
I don’t know what I liked about this quote so much, but it rang true. Maybe because I was able to relate it to pretty much anything in our lives, whether we know it or not. The Saturday nights you gave up in order to train at the crack of dawn for a race. Or, the chocolate cake you passed by that was calling your name in order to feel your ‘size heathy’. The lack of social life you seem to have whilst in school (or is that just me??), in order to reach further in your career. Of where you want to be.
In order to reach a goal, we often have to give up certain things. Be proud of this. Be proud of sticking to your guns and going after what you want. If we didn’t have to give up anything, the rewards probably wouldn’t feel so great. So remember this the next time you feel like a dork for having to say no. There’s a reason why you want it so bad. Remind yourself of this, and give yourself a pat on the back. It will feel that much better when you get to where you are after. It always does.
