That’s right. You heard me. Last night, Picasso and big haired Bob Ross showed up in my living room. Paintbrushes, paint, and that wooden paint mixing device all included. Even the tool that Bob Ross used to make those trees and mountain tops with. Remember? He made it look so easy! You’d be surprised what you can google for painting inspiration. There’s even speedpainting with Bob Ross, accompanied by techno music. Needless to say, my sister and I had a fun night.
Even with our goofy paintings last night, with no pressure or expectations on ourselves, I must say it was a little scary painting that first stroke. What colour should I choose? What do I want to create? Where do I start? What if it sucks?! As silly and fun as it was, it was hard to start! A blank canvas can be intimidating. Switched around, however, a blank canvas is ideal. It is where miracles are created. Where the impossible is brought to life. There are no rules on this blank canvas. Only opportunity waiting to combine with creativity. Some would say, it’s magic.
Try as hard as you can not to look at the canvas’s beside you. What everyone else is painting. Sit with your canvas – your gift of life – your canvas of endless opportunities, of endless abilities. And create the unimaginable. Trust me, it’s hard to start out, but once you get going, you can’t stop. It just flows. Inspiration becomes your tool, and the experiences and people you meet along the way become the colours. Unlimited colours. The more colours you add, the more you are able to blend together and create those unique and unexpected colours. They weren’t there when you started, but perhaps they become the paintings center piece. Who knows. Anything is possible – once you start.
Be bold. Be creative. Paint your life canvas with whatever YOU want. Any colour you choose. Any style that suits you. If it looks a little off? Keep going. You’d be surprised with what happens when you think you’ve made a mistake and wrecked it all. With the right approach, you can turn it into something beautiful. As long as you keep trying, keep going and most importantly, creating from your heart.
