Day 11 – Everything happens for a reason…

Right?  Well this is what I like to believe anyways.  Today, I was supposed to have been running a marathon.  In Hawaii.  Sun kissed in my bikini, paddle boarding into the sunset.  Well…. shit happens.  Bless in the mess I guess you could say.

Instead of lying on the beach for a week, recovering from a torturous 42km, I’m heading into the wilderness.  For a whole week.  Hugging trees and starting IV’s.  Mandy and I are headed to Lake Diablo, Washington, to take a remote wilderness medicine course.  I’m tickled pink with excitement.  It’s funny how when plans fall through, we often stare so hard at the closed door we fail to recognize the endless amount of open doors ready for us to leap through. And if there doesn’t seem to be any other open doors available?  Build one.  It’s as simple as that.  The opportunities are endless…

“If opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door” – Milton Berle

So here’s to building new doors.  Creating new adventures.  Meeting new people.

Here goes!

Smile with your heart

(I will try to blog throughout the week, although I’m not sure if we even have internet access.  Either way, I know I will have some inspiring stories to share when I’m back) :)

  1. Very cool! I love that you will be able to use ur nursing in such unconventional ways! Very inspiring. Have you done adventure racing before? Thoughts?
Love to hear from you :) p.s. so glad you are back to blogging

    • Hi Rebecca! I haven’t ever done adventure races, and I don’t think it’s in the cards for me. I only like being the medics at the races :) But kudos for anyone who does – those things are tough!!!

  2. Love this. I was supposed to run the Richmond, VA marathon in November. I had a bad knee injury 3 weeks before the race and was so bummed. I re-routed my trip and ended up in beautiful Park City with one of my loveliest friends, hiking, dancing, drinking, meet fabulous people, and playing in the snow. It was definitely an “aha” moment that I was able to get out of my own way and make the best of my vacation time (which was far better than I could have imagined).

  3. i got to share this with you. I didnt get a TA appointment for next semester and i was pretty upset about it. Yesterday, they asked me to teach the course !! To teach a math course has been on my bucket list for so long. Everything does happen for a reason huh !
