Day 11 – Ask Dr. Nat!


You’ve already met Dr. Nat, who volunteered along side me this year at BC Bike Race.  A Naturopathic Doctor, and wonderful person, who just so happens to be one of my best friends.  She is the smartest person I know.  Honestly.  If ever I have a health related question, I don’t hesitate in choosing who to ask.  She always cares and wants to help as much as she can.  She is extremely passionate about health and healing; it comes across in her every word and in the way that she chooses to live her life.  It shocks me to know that it’s possible to hold that much information in a brain!  I wish I was that smart!!! She definitely inspires me to live a healthier life.  (She’s one of those friends that if she saw you in the grocery line up, you’d hope you had done a healthy shop that day!  Cookies?  Those aren’t mine?!).  Thank you Nat!

Nat and I used to be roomies back in the day, living in a basement suite in North Van with another friend, Cindy.  We met playing soccer on the North Shore, and it was love at first site. Boy have we come a long way since then.  We were both students at the time, just trying to get by.  Now look at us!  I’m laughing writing this because for me, life is never really figured out (and I love that), but Nat is doing amazing!!  She works alongside Dr. Matsen, author of the well-known book ‘Eating alive II: Finding the missing piece to the health puzzle’ which you might have heard of.  Awesome is an understatement.

The best part is, Nat is going to be answering weekly questions on Smile with your heart!  Amazing!  Check out the tab above (Ask Dr. Nat), and post questions related to ANYTHING you want.  Anything. And no holding back here.  Remember, we’re in health care so nothing is weird, nothing is abnormal, it’s all just a process of understanding our bodies and how we can help them heal.  That’s all.  So post your questions!  Nutrition, exercise, sleep, hormones, pregnancy, stress…. these are just some topics to get you thinking.  Nat will be picking one question a week to answer on the weekend (when I’m on my weekly adventure blog-cations!).  Start posting some questions now and her first answer will be posted next weekend.  Life is good!

  2. I have a question about stress. My best friend and I have very different reactions to stress. When she is stressed she becomes overly productive ex. If her fiance comes home and she scrubbing the bathroom floor on her hands and knees he knows its been a bad day. When I get stressed I shut down, all my body wants to do is sleep. My bff describes my 2nd year of university as a constant effort to get me out of bed and to class. We are both returning to school this fall (her for occupational therapy and me for registered dietitian) and I can’t help but feel like her reaction to stress is going to be much more helpful then mine. How do I change my reaction to stress or how do I redirect it so that I don’t sleep away my 2nd undergrad? Thanks for the help! This new section of the blog is gonna be great!

  3. What a great idea w/ the ask Dr Nat idea. Super, look forward to reading them all. Also, amazing bracelet and wow! So kind of her to send from around the world. Amazing the people you meet on the web. There are some extraordinary people out there and no one would ever know if it weren’t for things such as blogs and social media. Amazing! Jenn, you really touch people’s lives and that is fantastic. You’ve done a lot for mine. Thanks.
