Day 21 – Giving without expectation

The other day, JC came over for a quick visit with a big bouquet of tulips in her hands.  My face lit up and I gave her a happy, unexpected grateful face with a “WHY!!??”.  Her answer, “Why not?!”.  No reason, whatsoever.  Just because.  Those are always the best gifts.  Unexpected, for no reason, and with no expectation of anything in return.  Only to make someone else happy.  To bring happiness to someone other than ourselves.  Writing this makes me think that every gift should really be given in this way.  No expectations, other than feeling good.  To help someone else feel good.  The amazing thing is that in exchange we get to feel good ourselves.

Last week I received an unexpected package in the mail from a new blog friend.  Jenny from LobotoMe sent me some of her awesome organizing notepads!!  Check them out here!!!  (They are awesome – I’ve been using them to help me organize a healthy week of good eats and exercise – THANK YOU JENNY!!)  I couldn’t believe it.  What an amazing gift from a new friend who knew I’d love it.  Thank you!

There’s nothing worse than receiving a gift from someone who makes you feel that you owe them something in return.  (This is one of my biggest pet peeves!)  The more we give without expecting anything in return, the more we will receive.  It’s impossible for it not to work this way!  When we are in an attitude of gratitude and thinking, “how can I give more?“, abundance will naturally just flow to us.  The cycle naturally continues because we will have more to give.  Give without expectation!  Once you start giving this way, it’s hard to stop!

Speaking of giving, I learned from my time off that I need to give more love to myself. I’ve been too hard on myself lately and I still don’t feel all the way ‘on’.  That’s okay, but I just need to keep filling myself back up.  I’ve decided to take a break from blogging on the weekends.  I’ll be taking Friday’s and Saturday’s off, sadly!, but this means that Sunday’s will be that much better.  I’ll miss it, but I know that my body needs it.  AND, it’s quality over quantity right?  I can tell that something isn’t quite coming out right through my writing lately, and I’m listening to this!  This is what I love, I won’t stop!  Don’t worry! I’m just learning a balance – and that we can’t do it all (which I’m learning the hard way- haha).  Have a great weekend and I will see you Sunday!!!

P.S. Does anyone know why BC Ferries was in the harbour today?  Wrong turn maybe?  So odd seeing it there at Kits beach!!!

    Jenn – I just wanted you to know that I appreciate you in tenfold. I started reading your blog a couple months ago and you’ve inspired me so much. I’ve ever started my own blog to keep myself accountable to the goal on my (guess what?) VISION BOARD! I even got brave and posted the vision board in my first post. Yay, me!

    I think it’s good that you take breaks. I need to learn to do a little bit of that! And I really appreciate all the assurance that you’ll keep writing… because I love reading what you post! It gives me a lot of inspiration (hey, isn’t that your word!?)!

  4. Keep taking the time for yourself, those you share with will benefit down the road.
    As for BC Ferries, all I can think of is that there was a pod of Orcas in English Bay who swam under Lions Gate Bridge, quite unusual, but spectacular. Perhaps they were giving their guests a special tour??? Who knows.
