Day 18 – Make the fuss!!

Happy birthday POOKIE!!!  Twenty MINE!! YahoooOO!!  Pookie is one of my best friends who I met whilst living in Whistler. We even shared a bunk bed and paid the Whistler price of an arm and a leg for that room.  But it was worth it.  So worth it! Here’s a picture of of us with our Irish roomies – I love those guys!  I need to make another trip over to the homeland soon!  This time, however, I will leave the 10 pounds of Guinness and potatoes behind. :)

I know that I don’t like to make a big fuss over my birthday, and I know neither do you Pook!  I’m always a last minute type of planner for things like this, and usually hope that if we do celebrate it’s organized by somebody else.  I don’t like for people to have to go out of their way for me.  That sounds crazy writing it, but it’s true.  I’m sure a lot of “nice” people feel the same way.  BUT.  Who doesn’t appreciate special gestures on their special day?  Whether we like to admit it or not, we all feel extra special on our birthday.  So CELEBRATE IT!!  Make a big deal out of celebrations in your life!  Make the fuss!  It’s an excuse to get everyone you love together and friends will feel so grateful that they’ve been invited to something that means so much to you.  This is a reminder for me to try this.  My counsellor even recommended that I work on this – making a big deal out of my accomplishments and special days.  I am special gosh darnit!  There’s even a balance within humility.  Too much of it is not always a good thing!

So Happy Birthday POOKIE!!!  I will be coming up to Whistler SOON to celebrate with you!  Unfortunately I work all weekend, so it won’t be as soon as I hoped, BUT!  At least this gives Whistler some time to get ready for us.

Michelle is another one of my best friends who hosted a fundraiser tonight at Academic.  I can’t say it enough how much I love my friends!!  She’s going to Africa in November to volunteer as a nurse.  I am so proud to call you one of my best friends Mish!  It felt like a celebration tonight. AMAZING people all in one room.  It felt really good (and the burger and beer tasted even better!).  I love being around such energetic, GOOD, kind and awesome peeps. I need to get better at creating this environment.  Bringing people together to celebrate.  I love showing up, but I think I need to start getting a little bit more proactive about bringing all of this good energy together.  I’m working on it!

I’m trying to become more pro-active in my life.  Instead of waiting for things to happen, I’m striving every day to make one small step in a more pro-active direction.  It’s a little scary and overwhelming doing some of the things I’ve been working on behind the scenes on my own, but it’s making me stronger and more independent.  Anything is possible – one step at a time.  You don’t have to see the end.  Just KNOW that it is ahead of you and take that next step to get there.  Usually with all of these pro-active steps, the original dream becomes so achievable that it just becomes yet another stepping stone towards an even bigger goal which didn’t even exist before.  There isn’t ever really a ‘destination’ as it’s all about the every changing and amazing journey of getting there.  Of getting ‘the-here’.  Right here.  Right now.  Enjoying THIS MOMENT!  I’ve said it before – life is what you make it.  If you choose GOOD and dream BIGGER, it’s guaranteed your life will become more amazing each and every day.  Life is so good!

Smile with your heart!

  1. I LOVE THIS JEN! yay mich! bbb bella!

  2. One great way to get people together: hosting a potluck! Good friends + good food + good energy/environment = great times! Even better if you’re all (or some) musical people, you can all bask in great energy after stuffing your face with deliciousness and jam! :) Ah what a awesome night, potluck nights can be!

Cleaning up is a non issue if you have a dishwasher or if everyone washes their dishes…ooor if you can get your hands on biodegradable disposables, then that’s another option as well! :D

& you don’t always need an event to celebrate – Life is a big enough of an event! ;)

    Have a wicked day, JT!

  3. Thank you for reminding me to choose GOOD and dream BIGGER! I want to surround myself with positive, happy people that want to live to their fullest potential!! YAY!
Each day, I am grateful for the breath of life and your wonderful inspirational thoughts!
