This is where I’ve been over the weekend – out in the backcountry on my snowshoes hugging trees! My apologies for you not having a blog to read during your breakfast for the past 2 days, so here’s a catch up of my weekend. Man, it was good!
THE SUNSHINE was insane!! Saturday morning I was off to Callaghan Valley, which is about 6km South of Whistler where the Olympic Park is. AMAZING. I
don’t know if I’ve ever snowshoe ran anywhere more beautiful. What an epic day. It was the second race of the Yeti Snowshoe running series – 12.5 km of up and downs, sore bums and smiles. Thanks to my running buddy Steph, we strolled along some of it talking big dreams and inspirations. It’s hard not to become inspired when you’re engulfed in between trees surrounded by 200 new centimeters of snow. There was one point of the trail called ‘The Top of the World’ and yes it was. The view of the Black Tusk made us stop and stare, until the guy with the camera came out so we had to start running yet again to make it look like, yes we WERE working hard. My body does not like me today, that’s for sure. Man that was hard!
Saturday night was Candace and Karen’s b-day in gastown. We started the night at Salt – a funky little restaurant in the heart of Blood Alley. I know, my thoughts exactly. I had to ask two random dudes to walk me down the alley because I wasn’t exactly comfortable doing it on my own. (tip for peeps on a budget – eat before you go out! Your friends won’t mind you’re not eating, as long as you’re there for good company – they will understand!). Off we later went to Lamplighter. Fun place, never been before.Too bad I was full of yawns, otherwise I probably could have stayed out later. But none the less, it was a good time.
Happy Birthday guys!
Sunday morning was another early start. I headed with some friends from the pool up to Garibaldi Park in Squamish. Another epic day! Sunshine, positive & inspiring peeps, fresh snow and chocolate. Perfect!
I’ve never seen that much snow up there before. It was a winter wonderland. Thanks guys for such a fun time. I can’t get enough of this snow!! Apparently though my body can, because today I can’t really move. My brain wants to, but my brick legs won’t let me. Fair enough. Fine then! I will rest!
Sometimes all it takes to refresh yourself is to get out of the city for a while, even for just a day. It rejuvenates you and allows you to feel just a bit more grounded, letting all the city stress fade away. If you’re feeling a little stressed or overwhelmed, plan some time to hide from the city for a while. You may think that you don’t have time, but you will get more done when you’re back and feeling like a million bucks. Thats what hugging trees does to you! Makes you feel ALIVE and grounded – well for me anyways. I love it!
I can’t believe it’s snowing in Kits right now! This winter is AWESOME!
