I just got back from a fun night snowshoeing at Grouse Mountain. This is the first year in about 8 or so that I haven’t worked as a snowshoe guide, and I have to say it was pretty nice being a ‘guest’ and not having to entertain everyone. I love it up there. The atmosphere can’t really be put into words. The one thing that really stands out though are the great people – amazing community of healthy, active people who love running around with big flippers on their feet acting like kids.
Act the way you want to feel. If you want to feel confident, being to ACT confident. If you want to feel happy, begin to ACT happy. If you want to feel young, begin to ACT young. I can tell you one way that will definitely make you feel like a kid again, and that is putting on a pair of snowshoes. I’ve commented on this before how it just makes you feel like a little kid sneaking into your parents closet and trying on their oversized shoes with a big grin on your face. Same sort of thing, just with tons of fresh powder to play in! Who knew you could laugh so hard running in powder and climbing up monstrous hills. Seriously, it’s really fun. And you don’t have to run if you don’t want to. There are guided walking groups, fast hikers, and runners. Everyone leaves happy. Wednesday nights at 7:00. Please try snowshoeing if you haven’t already from me raving about it on this blog! You are surrounded by trees, snow, laughter, big funny looking shoes and amazing people. Nature. So healing. I definitely feel like a million bucks after a night up there.
Act the way you want to feel. If you find yourself feeling a certain way that you’re not too happy about, first acknowledge this and then start to change your thoughts. Even distract yourself. Don’t let yourself go down that negative spiral. Do something about it. Act differently. If this seems hard, put yourself in a different environment where you have no choice but to start acting differently. For example, surrounding yourself with a positive environment like a yoga class or a silent walk through nature. Whatever it is that works for you, begin to turn your thoughts inward, keep them simple, and perhaps even extend gratitude to your current situation. Put yourself in the present moment. We are surrounded by love. Everywhere we go.
Here is a quote from Reflections in the Light from February 15th:
“As long as we focus on the outer world, there will always be an empty, hungry, lost place inside us that needs to be filled. When we keep our focus on the universe inside, we can have everything external – money, success, and fulfilling relationships – as well as that incredible connection inside ourselves”.
Act the way you want to feel. Everything will start to spiral upwards when we are feeling good. It has to!
Here’s a few pictures from tonight. Robert and John have known me since I was a wee new snowshoe guide almost 10 years ago. I can’t believe we’ve all been up there for so long! What a great community – it’s been a pleasure knowing and snowshoeing with you all for so long! I look forward to next week! And thanks Mandy for inspiring this blog!
Smile with your heart!
