One of my favourite parts about nursing is getting to talk with my patients, especially the older, happy, glowing friendly faces. I won’t forget one of my patients over the past few days who told me I wasn’t allowed to leave without giving her a hug. I often find myself asking them for wisdom they can share with me. So here was one of our conversations yesterday.
Me: “So if you could give any advice to a youngster like me, what would it be??!!”
82 year old rockstar: “Are you married?”
Me: “Nope, not yet”
82 year old rockstar: (Without a look of disappointment, surprisingly) “Well, lets see. Do what you love. And honey, travel while you can. Because you won’t always have the chance or even be able to.”
Me: “Good advice.” ☺
We talked some more, and her energetic husband entered the conversation who was cracking us both up. I asked her what was the secret to their 61 year marriage. She answered. “Don’t walk out the door. If you love that man, you sit there and talk about it. Of course we have problems, but we don’t walk out the door”.
Good advice again. Thank you. I will never forget it ☺
And here’s a quote I saw today in the grocery store… “Don’t be afraid to go out on a limb. That’s where all the fruit are”. DO WHAT SCARES YOU!!! I’m starting to figure out what really scares me, and I’m gonna do it. Keep posted for some courageous adventures coming my way!!! YahooooOOO!
Smile with your heart!
